"Vibrancy"
In 2003 The Moriah Group moved to Broad Street near downtown Chattanooga. This area of Broad Street was once a major thoroughfare of economic and social vibrancy for Chattanooga. Today we believe this area of Broad Street is entering a new vibrancy as the best of the past and present intersect again to re-ignite this part of Chattanooga's downtown. "Vibrancy" now hangs in our conference room at 2622 Broad Street just down the street from Brent's studio.
I am 2622 Broad Street.
(Written on the occasion of The Moriah Group’s Grand Opening in 2003)
Since 1923 I’ve seen us go through the good times and bad. I’ve seen the Great Depression but also the building of a dam to help us out of that time. I look across the street and see the manifestation of how we’ve changed as Wheland Foundry (now Perimeter Properties) and US Pipe properties sit in hopes of vibrant new development, but at the same time I realize I’ll be here when that place is a part of the city’s future. I remember a time when the local stores and banks contributed to a bustling downtown, but also remember when nobody really wanted to come here.
I was once a department store and my downtown was as energetic as a cup of coffee from Starbucks in the morning. I’ve seen two newspapers become one and have witnessed the rise of talk radio. I’ve seen two school systems become one with a vision and commitment that every child can learn. I’ve been blessed with arts worthy of a town larger than Chattanooga and a spirit of giving best illustrated by the United Way. I’ve seen leaders come and go, watched as the “power structure” breezes by, and continue to have the privilege of looking out over the Tennessee River every day.
The folks who have lived at 2622 Broad Street include craftsmen restoring old furniture, men selling toasters, a furniture mart, and an office supply store to serve local businesses. They all shared common goals of serving others while providing for their families.
Now I begin anew with The Moriah Group looking to serve business. They have given me a substantial makeover and I am ready for the 21st century. They like to gather around the pool table and think about ways to help make their clients and this community better. They love something called strategic communication and public affairs and they do it all the time… they practically live here. They work hard, play hard, travel around the country, and work hard for their clients. Frankly, I was worried when I first saw the plans for the building but things have turned out all right. Most importantly, they take no credit for the good things that happen to them because they know who is really in charge.
